None offhand for two, here's the +'s & for one or even

Two leversl, one for shifting and one for throttle is two movements. One Lever is one hand, one motion, one time. On a sailboat there are plenty of other things to do on of which is controlling lines, all while keeping a lookout, navigating etc. etc. etc. The negative aspects of two, even one lever ...

only coastalnavigator

It is a specific interest. Could be the copy I used on ITB Jacksonville is an advance but it far exceeds all the others in capability. I'll have to keep checking the website.

When finishing the sole how do you handle the use of anti-slip additives while still getting a bristol finish?

Screw/Bolt needed, like Mark's fastener don't know the name

Seeing the T and Riv Nuts reminded me I want a specific screw or bolt to use with them. The head is something like a thumbscrew but instead of the usual shape a semicircle with the flat part/diameter attached to the end of the bolt. In that way the rounded portion precludes any lines from snagging w...

Looking for Coast Navigator software

It was used on a ship I worked on recently and is the best I've seen and at a good price. However the url coastalnavigator.com leads to a page that says ....'soon.' Anyone know how to find a copy to buy. That ship is on the other side of the world ...so I'm stuck for now.

Repeat after me...

Brass is Green, Teak is Grey Brass is Green Teak is Grey...especially when you are standing on it. Untreated is the correct and best answer. If you really must treat it use Le Tonkinois with ASA or Anti Skid Additive or use Le Tonkinois on any teak surface that doesn't provide sure footing. ASA is s...

Another source and a thank you

Thanks for the tip on Mariners Hardware they have the solar powered exhaust fans I've been looking for and at a good price.

Another source for portholes (they open) and portlights (do not open) is New Found Metals in Port Townsend Wa.

Have one made....you get a better hatch that way

I wanted a larger hatch than is available from the usual sources. Dan and Justin at Port Townsend Rigging in Port Townsend WA made one up for me out out of some high strength aluminum stock including a permanent frame and the fasteners and seals. When open I can reach the engine, transmission and sh...

Home port for me

Used to live in Port Townsend WA and that's where the boat is undergoing refit/upgrade. But I'm officially a resident of Jacksonville FL since it's convenient to the union (merchant marine) hall and I can use the spare bedroom at my big sisters casa.

Some anchor choices not mentioned in the other thread

Being the villain who has started a lot of threads in other forums I finally made three choices for the new ground tackle. None of which I saw mentioned for that Packet 40. My criteria was the least amount of anchors that would cover ALL conditions and as much as possible to use the newer, cutting e...

Two ways to go... Yamaha or feathering prop

Since the main problem seems to be drag the easiest way is to switch to a feathering prop which is what I did on my Westerly 31. The engine is a V-P MD2030 rated at 29hp. Not all the available choices would fit the boat configuration. A little over a year ago these were my three choices and th price...

Westerly Berwick and Westerly Centaur

Being a twin keel fanatic I started with the Centaur 26 and now am in the final refit/upgrade stages on the Berwick 31. The Berwick is being converted to full cruising status and virtually every part of it except the head and the galley stove will end up much improved. Any questions on these boats s...
