Ha! I can already envisage the horrified and accusitory looks from dockside when those lovely, (ghastly?) rainbows appear on the harbour water's surface ... aaaaaaaaaaagh! ... not to mention the Eco police. Re: Internal//external ballast
Larry, I believe the false keel was originally foam-filled. It's a bit more fragile than the rest of the boat, and it is vulnerable to damage if the boat is blocked under it. Cracks lead to water-logged foam, weeping, etc. So, quite a few owners over the years have addressed issues with it. From wha...

Hi Larry, There do seem to have been variations galore in the Triton. That said, I've never seen or heard of the variation of an "early" east coast Triton with internal ballast. I believe the keel was widened slightly in the later boats to accommodate the shift to internal ballast, so it w...

Yes, I agree with that for the most part. My theory is that reinforcing the fillet would help resist delamination, but I don't have data to back that up, so merely a suggestion that is easy enough to do, and couldn't hurt. I can't see in my mind how reinforcing the fillet would help at all. I haven...

Interesting thread. I tend to agree on it being a good idea to space the edge of the bulkhead away from the hull and then let the wide tabbing transfer the force/load to the hull and not the edge of the bulkhead. I, too, don't see where the filleting needs to have particular strength. I thought it w...

Re: Alberg 30 Project
That does look a little suspect. I have read (and don't doubt, after working on that area) that those original fiberglass engine beds (in the first-generation boats) were strong enough for the A-4 but will not properly handle a diesel engine. Good move to replace them.

I'm not sure what I would use in your situation, but I wouldn't use Starboard. Reasons being that it is not particularly rigid, it's heavy for what you get, its surface tends to pick up dirt and not be "cleanable," and it does not take adhesives well. (I'm also not sure how it rates in the...
