Maltese Falcon, built for, owned, and sailed by Bay Area venture capitalist Tom Perkins, sailed into the Bay for first time last Saturday. My friend Mike sailed out to see her sail through the Golden Gate and under the Bridge, and sent this email:

"We were waiting for her outside almost to Mile Rock for her grand arrival. Fog bank about a mile offshore. She came out of the fog bank, this huge dark figure. It felt like a Patrick O'Brien scene. She had a bone in her teeth. I guess she was doing close to 20 knts. She then slowed and came in under sail, about 12 knots."
There are several other clips on YouTube.

A friend of mine (Der Alte here) was out on the bridge and sent me photos. It looked amazing!
Also, Latitude 38's "'Lectronic Latitude" had some neat photos today, if anyone is interested:

I kind of agree with Latitudes' article of a couple days previous that said these huge yachts are a bit out of place in today's world, but that this one is still neat, in spite of that.
