Trailboards

Post by Skipper599 »

I want to create my own teak trailboards with the boat name carved in them. The trouble is, I know nothing about how to carve letters and was wondering if there are stencils available one might use with a router? The letters should be approximately 4" to 5" tall. The font should be of gaelic styling ... Any help with this matter would be very much appreciated.

There are good ships, there are wood ships, and these ships sail the sea

But the best ship, is friendship and may this always be! ... ... ... A prayer from Ireland.

I have this router signmaking template kit: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-sign-pro ... 966581000P

Basically it's a set of plastic templates (you can pick the font) and a guide bushing that allows the router to follow the plastic template while the bit protrudes below into the wood. They all follow the same principal, but some are implemented better than others. Generally, the better ones have more options for securing the template lettering to the wood.

Hope this helps.
