Will Perfection Plus varnish stick to epoxy base?

Post by John, CD28 »

I know traditional oil based varnishes stick to an epoxy base (West 105/207). 207 is the special clear hardener with UV blockers used as base coats for varnish. Done right, these varnish finishes look really great.

How about a two part polyurethane varnish, like Interlux Perfection Plus? Will it also stick to a West epoxy (105/207) base?

Any experiences? Advice?

I have used Perfection over West System epoxy but the West epoxy must be scuffed up sufficiently to give the surface some tooth for the Perfection to grasp. I found 100 or 120 grit seemed to do a pretty good job.

Another point is to be sure the epoxy has totally cured. Give it a few days at least.
