Adhesive for overhead nailers?

The overhead of my Triton is going to consist of two layers of reflectix, with cedar strips covering the insulation. I'm trying to decide what adhesive to use for attaching the overhead nailers to which the cedar strips will be fastened.

Is contact cement strong enough for this application? My other choice is to use epoxy. If I go with epoxy, I'll need a way to hold the nailers in position while the epoxy cures. I could either use a couple dabs of hot glue on the nailers to hold them in place, hot glue some temporary wood scaffolds adjacent to the nailers, or screw into the deck to hold the nailers in place.

Also what spacing between the nailers is typically used? The reflectix is 16" wide, so I planned on either spacing the nailers at 8" or 16" increments. Seems like I could get away with 16" spacing without the overhead having much flex if the sides of the strips are epoxied together.

What have others used for this? I tried searching, but maybe didn't use the correct search terms.

Try Tim Lackey's motorsailer project...he attaching what are essentially furring strips to the fiberglass overhead with 5200.

I used polyurethane contractors adhesive (10 ounce tubes that fit a caulking gun from Ace Hardware) when I was installing furring strips to attach hull ceilings to the hull of my boat. I held them in place with scraps of 1 x 2 while the adhesive cured overnight, but a couple of dabs of hot melt glue should do just as well.
