Old Winches

Post by JetStream »

I have a set of single speed, bronze, primary winches for a 1961 38 foot Javelin sloop. They are marked "H M D" on top. Does anybody have a clue as to who made them?

Found the answer. Ted Jones (worked for William H. Tripp, Jr. in the 1960's) was visiting here on Saturday and told me they were built by Herbert M. Davidson of Old Greenwich, CT. He said that they were top shelf winches at the time they were made. He (Ted Jones) has always been a wealth of information for me about these old boats.
