Forespar Series 93 valves

Post by Ryan »

A scouring of the archives revealed that a few of you have used the series 93 plumbing system by Forespar in lieu of standard separate thru-hulls and sea cocks. Any opinions for or against them? I am looking to replace a few 1/2" and 3/4" thru-hulls and valves and have them on the short list of possible options. Thanks for any input.

I used them, I'm happy.
Not much else to report, or at least nothing you haven't already uncovered in your search of this forum.

They were a PITA to obtain a few years ago when they were very new to the market, and the vendors didn't know much about the product, I had to spoon feed them their own catalog as I recall. I hope things have changed on both fronts.

My dad installed them on his motorsailor. The only PIA was that he had lots of trouble getting the ones Forespar supplies to OEM builders. Apparently there is a difference: they are UL listed whereas the ones in the store are not. It may have something to do with whether they seize up more easily. I'll try and dig up the details of this if you are interested further.

EDIT: yes, they were the Series 93 and they were still a pain to get in December. Had to special order from Forespar who claimed they weren't available to just anyone.

I installed them all and there were no issues except that the collar that prevents the handle from being turned both ways broke when I forced the handle.

I'd love to have a 93 souce and the differences if there isn't too much digging involved.....

I used Series 93s and they have worked well for me. They seem to be much higher quality than the 'normal' Marelon seacocks sold in most chandleries. The Series 93s are completely different; see

http://www.forespar.com/onlineCatalog/2 ... 2009.shtml

for some basic drawings and

http://www.forespar.com/onlineCatalog/2 ... 2009.shtml

for comparisons of the 'normal' (MF850) Marelon seacocks and the Series 93s.

Like Figment, I found them hard to get. I ordered some from Marine.com but they clearly didn't stock them and barely knew they were in the catalog. After a good long while they arrived. Someone here on the forum ordered his direct from Forespar and had no trouble (despite the OEM-only claim).

Try Fawcett's in Annapolis... they've been through the hassle at least once before. :)
