Scrape repair

Post by George ( C&C 40 ) »

Hi All,

I picked up a two foot gouge in the side of my C&C 40 about one foot above the boot stripe from a 1/4-20 screw head sticking out of a fuel dock. The depth of the gouge is from paint level at one end to the first layer of fiberglass below the gelcoat at the other end. The paint on the boat is a DuPont "Imron" which is a two part epoxy similar to "Awlgrip". I have extra paint but was wondering what the best filler material would be to fill the gouge?

George

P.S. -- My plan was just to use West System with a sanding filler like 407 mixed in. Any better ideas would be great though. Thanks!

That's what I'd do. Epoxy with a low-density filler.
