Cosmic Dancer Update

Post by Idon84 »

The winter blues have taken hold even before winter officially begins. All the epoxy and tabbing work for the main bulkheads as well as all of the other base epoxy work has been completed before the arrival of cold weather. Even though we have added 3 layers of 1708 Biax tabbing over major bulkheads the work doesn't show progress to others that come to see. So over the last long weekend I was able to build & moch up some parts so they are ready for warmer weather tabbing.

Got the bobstay backing plate almost totally set up. A 1x1/4" stainless backing plate goes over the top.

The forward main bulkhead that the sampson posts bolt to is ready to tab.

Settee Backs are ready to be tabbed in.

I've also been able to install (no picture) the seat for the water tanks that goes in the bilge.

And finally last evening got the sink bulkhead ready for tabbing except I'm going to shave about 1" off the front for better set back.

It's nice to have other, who don't know, finally see some progress in the way of interior construction. We coming upon our 1 year anniversary of being out of the water, January 4th and I think all in all things are going quite well. Work on the boat officially started in March of 08 after the cold weather. Lot's more to go and even more questions to ask in the upcoming months.

Thanks again to all who have offered your advice!

Cheers,

Bryon,

Looking good!

Got a question for you about your sampson post. Are the two bits of wood (look like 2x4's to my eye...) just tabbed in at the hull?

I'm pondering a sampson on Pylasteki... (Grin)

Oh... Just clicked through the pictures of the refit... Excellent tip on your washer filleting stick. Great idea!

Okay, now I have to go find the "washer filleting stick."

I suppose he tabbed in the dryer, too ;)

I'm just now seeing your replies... How lame of me to not keep track. Anyway, Zach, the old sampson posts were 4x4 and were tabbed to the hull forward. They were cut pretty close to the hull shape and then filled in with thickened epoxy. This is NOT the way the Sam L Morse yard did it tough. The posts are bolted through that bulkhead in the pictures above, and were of the 2 1/2 x 6" variety. I will be bolting mine to the forward side of that forward bulkhead in the picture with a couple of stainless bolts on each post. I'm reducing size from 4x4 to 3"W x 4"L filling the left over hole with epoxy.

Love my fillet sticks... can't remember where I got that tip.
