Has anyone tried converting the original triton water tank under the v-berth to a holding tank for the head. Mine is full of green slime and I don't think it would be a good idea to drink out of it.

Sure.

1.) The outlet fitting would probably have to be changed for something larger.

2.) And then you would have to find a place to store drinking water. The V-berth is probably the best and largest area for water storage in a Triton.

Joe Henson started a thread about a year ago about replacing the V-berth water tank with a readily available plastic tank based on some ideas from the MIR you might want to consider.

Just be sure to disconnect the hoses to your faucet first!

I successfully converted that original water tank to a holding tank about five years ago. It turned out fine and worked great for five years. Incidently, I just pulled it out last week. Let me know if you want any details about how I did it. It wasn't too difficult, but did offer some challenges.

You mean you have to ask if we want to know? Of course we want some details...

I did exactly this modification on Deep Blue. Drinking water now comes from 2 13 gallon tanks installed in the old ice box location. The original fill was modified to provide pump out. The extra boyancy forward was welcome in heavy weather. Deep Blue also carries a 25 gallon bladder tank in the port locker for offshore work. So far that has proved to be overkill, and unbalances the boat when full. The two 13 gallon tanks were balanced by installing the battery bank next to the galley sink, in a vented box from Fisheries Supply in Seatle. Hope this helps Phil

The prior owner of my Meridian did just this, but I don't actually think he ever used it. I'm on the fence about using the conversion, or reconverting the space to water storage (probably with a new bladder tank within the old rigid fiberglass one) and using a porta-potty or fabricating a composter. I understand from Charlie J. that (as one might have guessed) the boat balances with the bow tank closer to full than otherwise, and I'd rather ship 20 gallons of water than waste! I'd imagine the same balance issues apply to your vessel
