Here's an exciting story of a rescue off the Big Island. As a father, I kept thinking thank goodness for strobe lights...

Incredible for sure! - The interview provides an excellent first hand account of what it's like to be rescued. There surely was great emotion in the fathers voice as he described his efforts of keeping his son close by, and how he prepared the young boy for getting him onto the boarding ladder. That man was thinking all the time and planning his moves.

Having once crossed the Atlantic in the original (small) Holland America line "SS Ryndam," - I'm well aware of how high waves can build, because we encountered two huge storms on that passage however, I have never ventured out there alone with my small sailboat. I can only imagine the physical difficuty of trying to board a rescuing freighter from the water in those huge seas.
