Rip off "Solar Generator"...

Post by Ric in Richmond »

Have you noticed the solar generator ads all over tv these days?? I figured it was a simple inverter with a small battery and a solar cell...yup!!

Stuff we as boaters deal with ALL the time.

But just how marginal is it???

18 watt solar panel
Sealed, non-spillable 51 amp-hour AGM battery
1800 watt inverter with five 115 VAC power outlets for operating multiple devices simultaneously. (but not for long!!)

In their ad they even reference running a furnace fan or a well pump.

All for the low low price of.....

$1697 + 120 shipping....

Lets see....Amazon.com... 5 minutes of shopping..

1800 watt inverter $250.00

18 Watt 12 Volt Sol-Charger Solar Panel $229

Solar Battery AGM 55AH 12V DC $269

I think for the extra $1000 they should come out to your house and hook it up for you.......
