Classic Steel and Aluminum

Post by Quetzalsailor »

The SS United States is docked in Philadelphia. She's been under threat of being scrapped but there's a star-studded ceremony and event tonight at which the news of her being bought by the SSUS Conservancy will be made even more public than today's story in the WSJ. http://ssunitedstatesconservancy.org/SSUS/blog/

I will be one of the fellows on the stage at the IKEA singing the National Anthem for the event. Two of the Conservancy board members are in the Orpheus Club, too http://www.orpheusclub.org/ .

Here's a video and slides of the event. http://planphilly.com/lenfest-keeps-big-u-alive

Boy! Talk about a boat being a hole in the water into which you pour money; the gift gets them the ship and 20 months of maintenance. Millions more needed to do something, what???, with her.

(I'm the big beardie on the left, singing.)
