Re: Ebay Triton on the rocks
#173.
I bet finding someone to take it will be a problem. With so many derelict Tritons sitting in boatyards already, paying for the additional recovery costs will be difficult to pass off. The crane alone would cost more than the boat is 'worth' (which is about as close to zero as you can get considering its condition). I could probably find a sucker with a hydraulic boat trailer but finding someone with a crane big enough to pick up a Triton is going to be tricky...
Yeah, very sad. Every year I add to the list of Tritons lost forever...

Hmmmm. Actually it looks like a fine restoration candidate to me. It doesn't report that she was holed. The rig and the interior are probably fine. The keelbolts are worth inspecting, but really I'd be surprised if they were compromised.
That hull work is ugly as the day is long, but in many ways that's the easiest work on a boat.

The eBay listing actually states "Damage: there are two holes on the bottom (~5-8 inches wide)."Hmmmm. Actually it looks like a fine restoration candidate to me. It doesn't report that she was holed.

Re: Ebay Triton on the rocks
I guess I only meant that there are worthwhile candidates in the boatyard already without having to rent a crane and trailer to haul the boat back to where work can be done. For the cost of the crane rental you could start with a functioning Triton.
Not that I really have a good idea what crane rental really costs. Locally, it costs a hundred an hour for a crane already based at the boatyard that can lift a mast. For a crane that can lift 10000# worth of boat and transport itself there along with the actual boat haul (hardly ever less than $500) I am guessing a few thousand minimum to get the boat back to where it can be worked on. I could be wildly off base there.
Refloating a boat with holes might be a cheaper option but still can't compare to nearly free boats standing ready for the sander in the boatyard.
You are right though. The hull is the easy part. I wouldn't necessarily shy away on the hull damage.
At first I was put off by the 2x4 and blue tarp cockpit cover. I was thinking the tarp was protecting something else that needed some work. Then I realized the cockpit cover was to keep off snow. The boat was on the mooring in March in New England. A harsh environment to say the least but not necessarily indicative of more damage.

Ummm... shrouds?... professionally fixed? In 2009, mast holding cables were changed and sails were professionally fixed.
and sitting on the rocks. It doesn't inspire much confidence to me.
its all yours Mike. I won't bid against you :-)

It looks like the hull took a beating before she settled on to the rocks...and the keel appears to be separating from the hull. The keel separation looks similar to an Allied Chance 30 that I looked at last week, except it was on a cradle.

Hello, everybody
Today I become confident, she will sail again. Damage to hull was not so small, keel (all that chunk of lead)banded. But this boat,
was strenghtened and crossed Atlantis to Baltic sea and back, so latest grounding wasnt deadly. Now I will need couple rainy days to learn how to post pictures and then be ready to ask all my questions (good many of them)

I am quite curious to hear your story!
I spent more than a few hours calling around trying to find a way to save her from the park police...

Over the phone the head of the park police threatened he'd arrest me and any one else seen on or near her. Grin!
That took the wind out of my sails...
Did you get her floating where she sat, or crane her out?
Zach
