Old places, old boats, old skills.

I have just finished reading 'My River Chronicles' by Jessica DuLong. This is her personal story of the last 10 years in which she found herself aboard a 1930s New York fireboat, 'John J. Harvey', learned the skills, earned her USCG ticket for engineer and captain. She reflects on the history and present of the Hudson River, and the lost skills of this country. Well written, thoughtful, well researched, and delightfully readable. Google 'John J. Harvey' and see its website. I will be recommending the book to my traditional architecture loving friends as well.
