Disassembling Norseman fittings

Post by kabauze »

I have a couple of Norseman fittings left over from last year's re-rig that I c an't get the old wire out of:

I've tried chucking them in a vise and twisting or hammering the old wire out, but that only screws up the wire. They've also been soaked in penetrating oil for a while - no help. Does anyone have a trick for removing the old wire?

Do you think someone used 5200 as the sealant inside the fitting?

Try some gentle heat to loosen the bond of the sealant, whatever it is.

Leave 'em for the rest of the winter, occasionally dribbling the 5200 debond stuff into the socket.

Tim's gentle heat might well be 24 hours at 250 deg in your oven.

Cut the wire off flush wth the top and punch the remains out with a punch of the right diameter (thinking about Sta-Locks, I think that with the cones out, only obstinacy and sealant is holding the wire in).

I had luck by putting the wire in a vice and hitting the fitting with a hammer. It's reassuring that they're so tough to get apart, though, isn't it?
