Holesaw without guide tip

Post by Harry James »

When Tim was redoing his cockpit scuppers he needed to make a larger hole with a hole saw. As there was already a hole there the drill guide had nothing to drill into so Tim filled the hole and then drilled it out larger. Here is a technique that a plummer taught me when I had the same problem. First you drill through a scrap piece of wood with the size hole saw for the new hole. You can make the hole through the guide at an angle if you need to it doesn't have to be square.

You can then screw it down or if you don't want to mar the surface you could use double sided tape or a glue gun.

Drill away, I am going to use an edge trimming bit to clean up the Formica at the end of this half hole.
