Re: N. Srª. Da Conceição hull #195 saved my life yesterday
Antonio, Faith, an Ariel (sold as the Triton's little sister) and I are in Bayou Grande. I was out on the water on Saturday the 4th also. Maybe I will see you out there some time. This sure is a nice area to sail in. Was a nice day on the water yesterday, and should be tomorrow. If you see a Royal b...

Re: Making a Sea Swing Bracket
Does the sterno put out decent heat? Coffee pot or espresso maker will probably be its intended purpose. I don't think pancakes and eggs for 8 is in the cards! Rose an I used our sterno Sea Swing as our second burner (and underway burner) on our cruise last year. It does not get as hot as other fue...

Since the title was 'painting the deck'
Since the thread was titled 'paining the deck' I thought I would add my aproach. I have used the paint addiditves made by interlux, and found them to be uneffective. They only slightly slow your sliding off of the deck.... a fact that my dog finds quite frustrating. The method I have choosen (so far...

Haul out of Ariel #226, 'Faith'
After over 5 years in the water on the current bottom job it was time for a haul out; She looked pretty slimy on haul out; http://sailfar.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10014/1Haul14.jpg The Slime layer was worst at the water line; http://sailfar.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10014/1Haul15WLmuck.jpg On h...

Thanks for all the great replies!
Tim wrote; I don't think it necessarily matters so much that the cleat be at the precise centerpoint of the boat's length. What's more important is ensuring a clear lead for lines leading both forward and aft off the cleat, assuming you want to use it for securing spring lines and so forth. Thanks T...

Where to mount a midships cleat?
I asked this question on the Ariel forum also, but have not seen anyone there who has opted to mount a midships cleat. I like them, and have a pair of 10" bronze hershoff style cleats. I have made some progress, the bow roller is mounted, as is the bow pulpit and stantions. I have the bow cleat...

Other Ariels have
I have not personally had this issue, but other Ariels have. There are voids on some boats, both forward and aft the ballast. The lower numbered boats seem more prone to the problem. The voids normally fill with water over time, and I suspect the damage to your hull was a hard freeze, probably repea...

Silicone is evil
I agree that one of the 'miracle' polishes that probably seemed liek a good idea to someone over the years probably contained silicone. Silicone, in all it's forms, applied to fiberglass or wood is pure evil and has no place on a boat..... (ok, maybe enging gaskets). I have had some luck with coatin...

I like my 10w halogen reading lamps to read by. You can find the fixtures at hardare stores for much less then the 'marine'. Lowes has a brushed stainless fixture for track lighting that is not too hard to figure out a mount for. The light is pleasant, and there is more light per amp then incandesce...

THoughts on re-use of skins.
I was very thankful to purchase 'Faith' with the balsa in her foredeck already replaced by the prior owner. (the Ariel is cored like East Coast Tritons). He had used a foam honeycomb core (dynacore?) and had re-used the top skins. Two years after the purchase, I was up on the bow raising the anchor....

Pearson 300
As was mentinoed already, this idea shapes up to look alot like the Pearson 300. There is one in my marina that is for sale (and has been for some time). Kinda neat boat really, I believe the hull is more like I wanderer without the center board. The rig is shorter then would otherwise be expected o...

Dewatering aboard s/v Faith
THis is from a post I made on the Sailfar.net site earlier this year. My system has evolved as I installed it, the first part (above the line) was from June. Bilge pumps After a good storm on the Chesapeake earlier this year, I was reminded of the value of a good bilge pumping system. Of course we k...

You will not be sorry with your decision.....
As the owner of Ariel #226, having worked on her and sailed her for the last 3 years, I am still very pleased with her.
You might take a look at http://www.pearsonariel.org Good owners forum.
Congrats!
