Stainless Rigging 302/304 vs 316
I am about to replace my standing rigging i will use sta-lok fittings. is there a need to use 316 for the wire? I understand it is more corrosion resistant than 302/304 but it is also weaker. My Alberg rigging is 41yrs old, hence the replacement, I am assuming they used 304 back then but not too sur...

Anyway, I took the plunge and decided to make my own replacement chainplates. i was going to use another Alberg 30 owners chainplates but that never panned out so i am just using mine. I pulled the lower...

Re: Alberg 30 Chainplates
the 6ft piece of 316 was $70.02 to my door! premade generic stainless chainplates were about $100 each. i have plenty of metal working tools so making them should not be too bad. heading to the boat today to remove some of the old ones.

Re: V-berth & watertank refurbish
made some progress. I have the lid just about finished. I took it to the boat this weekend for a test fit...all is good and tight. IMG-20111204-00159resize.jpg IMG-20111204-00160resize.jpg I think I am going to have to sand and coat the entire tank. all the black spots seem to have eaten into the ge...

Re: Alberg 30 Chainplates
You may already be planning this, but from what I understand it's important to get them as polished as possible if you are using stainless, to help keep crevice corrosion at bay. yeah planned on it, i have been asking around town about a local place to do it(polishing) everyone says they do it them...

Re: Alberg 30 Chainplates
been thinking and reading and have decided to use 316- 1 1/2" x 1/4" for the chainplates. boat has original 3/16" x 1 or 1 1/4 now. I am gonna replace the lower and then the upper chainplates and the backstay last before unstepping the mast. I think this will make for less down time o...

Re: V-berth & watertank refurbish
I have been thinking about this all day. I am going to make a plywood lid and epoxy coat it. This only has to last a couple of years and will not break the bank( i am doing the standing rigging this winter too). It will also give me some much needed experience with west system. I did some internet r...
