I agree, that's the way that I see it. The things I'm doing are the best value for the money, and I believe that my efforts will yield a strong and capable boat. I'm finding that so far, costs are running well below my estimates which is a great feeling.

Dave and Answer are the biggest single inspiration for me and #268. My refit is modeled directly on Answer and Dave's philosophy of keeping it simple.

Compression beam will either be repaired or replaced...not entirely settled on which, of course it partially depends on need, but if I find it to be intact and otherwise OK I'm undecided whether I will upgrade it or just replace. It partially depends on what kind of work space I have available to me...

Well finally got around to cropping the best photo I have of the dinghy. It's not very clear, and it's upside down, but it clearly shows that it's quite round, as opposed to the hard chines found on the Dyer brand and others.

Carl, sounds like we're pretty much doing the same thing. My toilet system is technically legal, but the holding tank is just tucked behind the head at the moment and not secured in any way-not really a permanent kind of situation! The Pearson Plebe looks about right. It has a rounded bottom like that instead of the hard chines. I'll see if I can't get some pictures resized and posted.

My Triton came with what I am told is a Dyer dinghy, around 8' which would make it a Dyer "Midget". Problem is, it doesn't look quite right for a Dyer. It's nicely rounded, and though it has about the right shape in plan and profile, but it lacks the hard chines characteristic of the Dyers...

If I were rebuilding a boat so completely, and I was worried about hitting things, I'd make as many watertight compartments as feasible (ala Baldwin's Atom) but I suspect given your thoroughness that you've already thought of this and perhaps on planning on doing so.
