Re: Coronado 15 project.
Third coat report: It's in the mid 50's today with no sunshine; I brought the woodwork inside (with a patio table) and set the heat-lamp underneath. Whats more exciting to watch as it's drying, paint or polyurethane? (I say polyurethane.) http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m512/TampaBay2/woodwork9...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
Update: I started sanding the polyurethane with 320 grit. The dust was tacky and it "balled up." It's sunny, but the temperature is just 58 (conclusion: not fully cured.) This sheet of black plastic is tucked in around the edges of the project. It will increase the temperature (and curing...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
Morning: I moved the first coat of polyurethane into the sun for extra drying. The sanding blocks are ready to go, I'll scuff the new surfaces and apply coat number two. I learned this, Interlux Perfection Plus "goes a long way." I prepared a small batch that turned out to be 4 times more...

Yesterday, the tailgate on the tow vehicle was finished. That black trim panel was a big project; beneath the surface are 6 rubber edge strips, 4 new brackets and 8 new clips.

Re: Coronado 15 project.
The teak has been off the boat for a long time. This is a test fit to figure out how it all goes back together. http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m512/TampaBay2/teak2_zps6ae85a0b.jpg I'll disassemble, apply new varnish, then reinstall. Anyone know a good bedding compound? (nothing that's impossib...

I love that video. I am adding a link to the Westsail 32 project that Tim was working on.

Re: Coronado 15 project.
The paint and non-skid is down and all I can say is wow. The repair is invisible, and I didn't think that was possible. Earlier today I had a loaded paint brush in hand, and for two seconds, I didn't know where to start painting. That's when I knew the repair was good. It's a Thanksgiving miracle! ...

After a couple hours of patient sanding, the seam was very close to perfect. This image shows the lows spots that were so obvious when under the paint (the darkest reds have the thickest filler (the deepest dents.)) http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m512/TampaBay2/deck9_zps20bd1a6e.jpg I marked a...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
I did some maintenance on the trailer this weekend. This rust and old paint was removed with a wire wheel. http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m512/TampaBay2/hubs2_zpse1aaea9e.jpg With the tire off, I replaced one bolt into the hub and hit it with the wires. Repeat times 10 and then attack the hub ...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
Hello seasailor55, The Coronado 15 sails well. It has plenty of sail and a comfortable cockpit. The hull and the foils have been faired, the boat has many new parts and it gets faster every year. The trailer is also in very good condition; it received a lot of time, and resources. A closer look at ...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
I made a trip to West Marine today, to buy a small can of West System 206 slow hardener. With thickened epoxy I faired in the blue areas and also a gouge on the port bow (see the red spots.) It's time to take a seat and enjoy some cool Florida weather. http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m512/Tampa...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
This was easier than anticipated. I sanded the surface, taped off the edges, and rolled on 2 coats. Then I sprinkled the non-skid additive onto the still tacky paint and rolled out the 3rd coat. http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/m512/TampaBay2/paint9_zps999ac0f5.jpg Not perfect, but much better t...

Re: I think I may build a Stimson Bow Shed
I googled "what is the best plastic for a boat shed." And read about people using UV resistant sheeting in white (to reflect some energy,) but I didn't see the shrink wrap action. Here is a link to a guy who used shrink wrap on a similar shed (just googled more.) I suppose if the frame is ...

On a warm day, when the sun is bright, that shrink wrap might change shape and move your shed around. (Think greenhouse effect.)

Whats wrong with going back to a rowing skiff? They are cool enough. If you wanted to go the trimaran route, I think that Hobie hulls can be had for very cheap (lots of "parts boats" out there.)

How is everyone? The weather south of Tampa has started to cool and it's now possible to work without risking a heat stroke. This is the 1st project I bumped into today, so here goes nothing. The inside of a throttle position sensor (mine.) If you step on your gas peddle you will rotate the throttle shaft. This sensor fits onto that shaft. That red disk is rotated and the electrical signal generated (from 0.2 to 4.0 volts) tells the computer how to manage fuel and spark. Before you shel...

Re: Coronado 15 project.
Thanks! The truck requires work now and again. As long as there's a use for the vehicle, it's much less expensive than buying new. I used to let the maintenance slide, but when I started towing, I got more serious. This is what I'm replacing now (bearings and races, sway bar end links, rotors, cali...

The 5200 bonded poorly in a few spots with too much squeeze-out. Just to be safe, I installed eight sheet metal screws. I don't think I'll enter this truck in the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance (it's a very fancy car show.) I fared in the new panel with Bondo and then glazing. The trim piece is p...

A tube of 5200 was dispensed across both surfaces (sanded and cleaned.) What I really needed here, was about 15 more clamps. Three fairing strips were used to distribute clamping pressure; one strip is under the bricks, and two strips are at the bottom edge, sandwiching the old steel and the new. h...
