alberg 30!
VERY cool boat! I signed up with photobucket today so I could post pictures. It was worth it just to have your reaction. My little ibook is now so glutted with files that I am always having to search for stuff to delete. My enormous backup hard drive is stored in a good safe place...as soon as I fin...

Soverel 28 MORC II
She was originally "Cheers," named by her original owner. Someone on Long Island renamed her "THE INCIDENT" and most of her sailbags have that name on them. We contemplated several good names but that one was catchier than any we could some up with. We picked the blazing red, rou...

Re: Soverel 28
Yes, that IS my boat! I think of her as a keelboat because she weighs 7,000 pounds and has a keel/centerboard arrangement. My previous sailing experiences were all in centerboard boats, starting with a Cape Cod baby knockabout, then a Cape Cod Mercury, and on to lighter centerboarders. I am used to ...

More Soverel 28 MORC II
Here are some additional photos for Rachel, clearly a tasteful and wonderful woman! I have quite a few photos but will try to keep them relevant. In 2008 I refinished the teak on the boat. 2007 I had the rudder rebuilt. This year I am hoping to paint the decks and doghouse along with some work on th...

Soverel 28 MORC II
i love you Rachel! And of course, I am just getting the hang of posting to this forum! Richard That's a pretty boat! I wasn't familiar with those before you posted - had heard the name but only associated it with the racier newer boats. Certainly hadn't seen your MORC II version. Thanks for the phot...

Re: 1973 soverel 30 mkIII
I almost forgot. Here's a COMPLETE operators manual for the 60's era Soverels written by a cranky old guy who owned one. LOTS of information on the care and feeding of an MD-2 diesel (mine is still running perfectly after 40 years) and all other aspects of the boat. Fun and quirky reading for anyone...

Re: Soverel 28
I haven't sailed in a 33 but I HOPE to some day. They are rockets, but bring along your extended family. My 28 is a LOT more forgiving of a keelboat newbie like myself, and can be single handed in a pretty good blow. I agree with your assessment--and I love the big cockpit, though someday I may want...

Soverel 28 MORC II
Here's our 1967 Soverel 28. The first version of these had a full keel with attached rudder. The MORC had a spade rudder and a much bigger cabin than my boat. The MORC II was a somewhat rare boat with a 10' cockpit and VERY low "sitting" headroom. These boats all had lots of teak, and mine...

Hey Ghostwriter! I have a Soverel 28, which is VERY similar to the 30. There were few of either boat manufactured, though there were 90 of the 28's. They are VERY solid boats, and the 30 is as well. I wouldn't turn away from it because those Soverels are amazingly well constructed. You might want to...
