Re: Acquired a new project (Grampian Classic 31)
Sorry to hear that the Grampian didn’t work out. Based solely on her lines, I’d say she’s worth saving , even if you don’t have the time to be her savior. The Swiftsure is even more attractive and, from your description of her better condition, I think it’s not too much of a stretch to say there’s a...

How’s your Grampian Classic project coming. I’d never heard of those before you posted yours here. I’ve seen, and even considered acquiring a Grampian 26, but a Classic? Reminds me a lot of a Hinckley Sou’wester. Verrry nice. Anyway, how goes it?

Morgan 30 Project
I'm not sure this thread belongs here as I sail her as much as I work on her. She is, to be sure, an ongoing project as everything on her needed to be overhauled when I acquired her. Her name is Celerity and she is a 1970 Morgan 30. The name Celerity is a reuse of the name of a boat that a relative ...

Crazer, glad to hear you're moving ahead with her despite the less than ideal weather. If she sails as good as she looks, she is well worth your time. As I said earlier, I've not seen one before, but she really is pretty. I, currently, have a Morgan 30 with a Palmer M60 motor. It's a kind of a varia...

I've never been a huge user of social media, but I never thought of PCF as being in competition, for eyes, with FB or Instagram. I do watch YT videos, but, again, I don't think they really compare. Thank you, CapnK, for taking over the site. It would have been a terrible loss for the PCF to have gone away. There is a ton of useful info here. I'm not sure of what I can do, but let me know if I can be of any help in maintaining/resurrecting the site.

Good Friday evening, It is good to see activity at the PCF. I was a regular here, years ago, when Tim was still guiding the forum. Hi guys, I was just wondering if any of the old crew was still about? I was pretty active here several years ago. My life was overtaken by events, but I'm ready to put it back out front again. As part of that effort, l just purchased a new old boat in order to have something to consume my every spar...

Did you get a chance to take her helm? How was she in terms of weather helm? I've been spoiled by owning a boat that never carried much weather helm under any conditions. I once sailed an O'day 27 or 28 that was so heavy on the helm that sailing her was a chore.

Sorry. I know it's a hard question to answer w/out some photos. No blisters. Rig's OK. Sails are OK. Motor's an unknown. I guess it's a very general sort of question. What is a tired 50 year old, 30' fiberglass sailboat worth?

I've been looking at a Harmony 31 that's been sitting on the hard in a yard I frequent. She's been there for the better part of 10 years. The owner got a new boat. If you're not familiar with the boat, she's slightly larger than a Trition, but smaller, below, than an Alberg 30. She shows every year ...

The pilot lights on the AC breakers on my friend's electrical panel continuously flicker. The DC lights burn steadily. As everything works fine and I've seen it on a number of other panels, I don't think he has a problem. Am I wrong? Is there a reason why AC pilot lights might flicker?

My Pageant has a roller reefing main & I've played with it a bit & the idea looks good. I know they are prone to failure at the gooseneck and have, for good reason, fallen out of fashion, but I have to chuckle when I hear them rejected due to their producing a bad sail shape. How many people...

This is good. I imagined somebody would come back with the "duh" reason for switching the negative leg, thereby making me look dumber than I really am. While I always like to learn new things, it's comforting that it doesn't make much more sense to my fellow forumites than it does to me.

I agree w/ case that the boomkin is probably there to keep the backstay off the mainsail's roach. As for the runners, they were typically used on fractionally rigged racers, in addition to the fixed backstay, to help keep the luff of the headsail taut.

Not arguing here. Learning. If a high aspect fin keel is more efficient? Then why didn't the earlier, slower aircraft have delta wings? Because, at the speeds they were moving, a delta wing wouldn't create enough lift. And remember, I know everybody says this or that keel "creates more lift&quo...

In fact, I remember reading, in an old book or magazine, where research had shown that a full keel with an attached rudder, with a little weather helm, actually created lift. The lift thing was mentioned and I had to do a little research into nautical terms. An aircraft wing creates lift, a sailboat ...
