Re: Keel bolt replacement

The bolt heads are glassed over, so I wouldn’t expect a leak unless the glass has started to fail which doesn’t appear to be happening. The part that concerns me the most is that the keel is not nearly fair at the bow, and the gap is roughly equal to the mismatch between the fiberglass and the lead ...

Keel bolt replacement

After my boat was hauled out, the first time I've properly seen her out of the water, I discovered to my horror that the lead in the keel has separated from the hull by about 1/2" at the front. There is no comparable separation at the aft end but, after investigating further and discovering the...

Re: Moving my Galley - Interior Remodel

I've always used contact cement without an issue. That said, I haven't tried to cover a large surface (just a couple of small counter tops, 1 ft by 3 ft) Do you have one of those rollers for smoothing it?

Re: Moving my Galley - Interior Remodel

Hi Marvin-sadly no interior pics of the lockers or laz area. The access on Wanderers with an aft galley doesn't seem too bad. My current boat is that way as well and really the only problem is accessing the aft end of the engine, which I can still do somewhat easily through the cockpit lockers. I ju...

Hi Kurt, yes they were all built with centerboards. This was the only production keel centerboarder Rhodes designed, although he drew many beautiful one-offs of similar concept. The construction of the centerboard mechanism on this boat is bulletproof, a huge improvement over my old Pearson Wanderer...

Re: Acquired a new project (Grampian Classic 31)

I was realizing that the boat needed way more work than I wanted to put into it for the kinds of things that I want to do in the future. Mostly she needed a lot of interior carpentry and repair. After a false start with my last project I lucked into a good deal on a 1962 Rhodes Swiftsure 33. She is named Clio, hull number 96, and she was built by G. Devries Lentch in Amsterdam. These boats and a few others, including the first Rhodes Meridians, we imported by Seafarer Yachts before Seafarer...

I'm at an all time low of two boats: Loon and her dinghy. I've been throwing around the idea of a skin on frame kayak build for this winter, but that will be the extent of my fleet for a long while. I did the two (big) boat thing and it was more stress than enjoyment.

You can order custom cut toppers for a little more from a variety of online stores. That might be a better solution just in terms of usability and aggravation. I plan to do the same thing on the Wanderer.

Put the outboard on a bracket. If you find, after a couple seasons, that you really do like the outboard then do the job properly and put it in a well.
