Re: Another kind of classic plastic boat

That's such a pretty boat. Thanks for sharing. A far cry from my clunky plastic Old Town Millenium kayak... which does have some redeeming qualities - it will take a licking without breaking (rotomolded polylink3) and provides some insulation against the cold water. At 16'6" mine's not tiny, bu...

Re: Thoughts on 16' to 20' Daysailer Design

Nordica's caught my eye when I first got interested in sailing... those and their cousins the Halmans cut a nice image, make a nice little pocket cruiser and are nearly impossible to find. I began to find that I needed to arrange to be on a waiting list to get one that wasn't a total project. So tha...

Re: What do I use for interior paint?

Specifically I dislike the flow characteristics of Brightsides: it is difficult to apply well and not particularly self-leveling or forgiving no matter the level of reduction. It always seems sticky and draggy during application, even with more reducer. I dislike the covering ability and I dislike ...

Re: Bristol 27 bulkhead replacement.

The aft bulkheads... on my Bristol 24, dinette version, there is only the port aft bulkhead. Comparing floorplan layouts, it looks as if I can easily cut out the port one as long as I reinforce the step/hatch area. I don't know which floorplan your 27 has, but the dinette version of a B27 is similar...

Re: Why use propane when you can use kerosene?

In a past life, I worked with a group of research engineers who developed off-the-grid kitchen appliances.* Kerosene is a remarkable fuel, and is wonderful to work with - but - unless it's used in a pressurized feed with a pre-heat loop, it will burn incompletely, resulting in heavy sooting as well ...

Maybe King Starboard? From what I read (haven't tried it so I can't swear) it sounds like it fits your circumstances.

Re: Cockpit Scupper Drainage (With Diagram)

Hoping I'm not talking out of turn here, but in my B24, the aft cockpit drains (I think, but haven't checked so this is a guess) appear to dump into the aft well, and then drain out the bottom of that well. Is that ideal? I doubt it... but it would insulate you from having a wave push water into the...

Re: So you want to paint .......

I know others have recommended masks, gloves, etc. Let me jump in on that and strongly recommend using caution and care with all volitile petroleum-based chemistry. Basic rule of thumb - if it smells 'good', be very very careful. Liver and kidney damage can result from exposure over time. And exposu...

Re: Bristol 24…

I'd read that too, Rachel, so I anticipated going over all the hardware carefully, replacing, waterproofing as needed, etc. So much good information available... and so much to learn. I'll get there, just have lots of work to do.

Re: Bristol 24…

Given the scarcity of info on Bristol 24s on the Internet, I thought it better to clump all of this together, so I dug up this one for that reason. Rachel, thank you for your comments. And for the moment, I'm hanging on to my cash, and have more time than money to play with. Do I mind doing the work...

Re: Bristol 24…

Reaching down into the bottom of things to dredge up an old thread here... but I am now the owner of a 1968 Bristol Corsair 24. Mine is structurally in good shape, but the interior has already been gutted (I got a super cheap deal on someone else's abandoned project). And while I have some ideas and...

WooHoo, congratulations! You've got a lot more courage than I do... I went small (but then I don't know how to sail yet, either).

Great looking boat.
