Rachel, I think you nailed it!
Strong evidence is the transverse locker/seat at the aft end of the cockpit.

ID this boat, geniuses!
I was down to Dana Point, CA this week on business. Stopped by the pretty little harbor there, and saw this boat. It looks to me to have a long full keel with a semicircular rudder, like an Alberg design. At first I thought it was a Sea Sprite 23, but the doghouse looks a bit too long, and not shape...

Thank you Eke!..I'm fairly excited...And thanks for that pic you posted ..that boat is a dandy..I'm a bit confused though..says it is a Yankee Dolphin...we're the sparkman/Stephens molds for the C-29 MK II sold and re-made by another cmpany?..Hmm...that would be cool. Anyways....I tried to post som...

Re: 1966 Columbia 29 MK II
If I'm not mistaken, the Columbia 29 is a Sparkman & Stephens design. It's a pretty boat in my opinion - nice swoopy sheerline and a classic Olin Stephens transom. Congratulations! http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu188/ErikEvens/100_0443.jpg I don't think Mr. Stephens ever designed an ugly bo...

Re: Alternatives to the Pearson Ensign?
Here's another one that I've always liked. The O'Day Outlaw by Phillip Rhodes: http://www.gjenvick.com/BangorPunta/images/ODday/1967-ODay-Outlaw-1.jpg Similar to the Pearson Commander in a lot of ways... the long cockpit that Rachel digs, jaunty cabin house, outboard well, springy shear. Full keel b...

If the Typhoon is too small, how about the Typhoon Senior? 22.5 feet long. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x70/seaglass414/CD%20Typhoon%20Senior/smDSC06414.jpg Another great Alberg is the Sea Sprite 23: http://www.seasprites.com/images/galleries/23s_in_the_fleet/Fizz_ME.jpg Or the damn-near-perfe...

Re: Now THAT is a centerboard...
My experience is that most keel/CB designs in the CCA era carried their boards swept back at a fairly dramatic angle. On my Dolphin 24, there is a "tooth" on the radiused top end of the board that hits a stop on the trunk and prevents it from lowering beyond the designed angle. The cable d...

Bedding Teak
I'm going to be mounting some linear teak trim along the edge of the cabinhouse of my Dolphin...restoring a bit of original trim that was removed by previous owners long ago.
Simple question - what should I use to bed the teak trim? 4200? Anything better?

I just love this boat, the Highlander 18, from Selway Fisher in Great Britain: http://www.selway-fisher.com/High18p1.jpg It just says "camp cruiser" to me. And I love the salty yawl rig. It's not a plastic boat, but stitch and glue plywood construction, so it's a bit out of place here, but...

When I read your description, I instantly thought of the Cape Dory Typhoon. 19' of perfection from Carl Alberg. http://www.usedboatshub.com/image_gd/imagegd_big_inside.php?87512969_3thumb_550x410.jpg http://www.sailingtexas.com/piccapedory18jd.jpg More like 30" draft, though. But what the hell!

Thanks for the pics of a very nice little boat! I can't help notice the West Marine in the background of the pic where the boat is being blocked up....boy that must be handy!! Handy, and expensive. :) Yep, West used to be right next to the yard here in Marina Del Rey. They recently closed it though...

Rachel said she liked the photo I posted in the "Sails" forum, so I thought I'd throw a few more up here for everyone's interest. These shots of me and Robin Lee, my Dolphin 24 were taken by my friend and dock-neighbor Bill Hogan, when we played hookey for a Friday afternoon a few weeks ag...

Re: We ordered a new headsail this winter.
I agree with much of what has been posted here. I bought a 135% genoa for Robin Lee and it's about as perfect an all around headsail as I can hope for. The Dolphin 24 carries a pretty healthy sailplan, so the 135% is a good sized headsail, plenty in most conditions, except for the very light drifter...

Thanks for all the photos, Jim! They made me feel nostalgic for the sailing days of my youth with my parents. My dad bought a Kings Cruiser 28, a clear finished woodie, in 1962 or so, and we sailed that as a family for a few years before moving up to a Cal 40 in 1968. We sailed that boat all over th...

Thanks, Guys! Mike- That boat comparison calculator is really great. Seems like they have a good big database of info. I bookmarked it for sure! I looked at some info on the Westwind. I love that quote, precisely because it IS an anachronism. Herreshoff was a visionary designer, a genius, in my opinion. But he had one foot in the past, in the 19th century, really, and that quote speaks to that. I think he was reacting to a material that he thought had none of the elegance and gra...

If you think it is 26 feet, any chance it is an O'Day Outlaw? It's a Rhodes design from the '60's and looks like it has very similar lines. This mystery boat is berthed a couple dock down from mine, and every time I go by I admire and puzzle over it. My first thought was that it was some kind of Pearson/Alberg, but I can't match it to any known hull, and the fact is that the shear line is distinctly un-Alberg-like: very swoopy. It's abo...

Froon, Rachel, Tom, Chris, Bill- Thanks for the kind welcome to the board! Froon- I see you have a Sea Sprite. I nearly bought one before becoming infatuated with the Dolphins. They are so lovely. New member here, although I've visited several times over the last year. I'm the extremely proud owner of Yankee Dolphin 24 #118. For those not familiar, the Dolphin 24 is Sparkman & Stephens design #1497, which came off the boards in 1959. She's a keel-centerboard MORC racer, based on a half-sc...
