Re: Synthetic rigging?

"But to a certain extent, you are part of the test group." Yep, I realize that but it is a pretty good group to get into! There was a time with our Boat "So IT Goes" that I seriously considered re-naming it "TestBed" as it seemed we were doing more than our fair share t...

Re: Synthetic rigging?

A stainless stay will last 20 years but that is twelve years over its sell by date or what most folk would call optimum. Dynex is very good on the UV front and the folks who make it are being very conservative with their five year lifespan as they simply do not yet have the data... They do expect lo...

Re: Synthetic rigging?

I'm in the middle of re rigging and re-masting my CAL 34 as a cutter and just for the record using synthetic rigging is actually quite a bit cheaper than doing it with wire and mechanical terminals. So far I'm not seeing a downside... That said I am doing all my own splicing and building my own dead...

Re: Too cheap to buy a genset?

We have been using a Honda 2000 for almost six years now and if marine stuff was made half as well we'd ALL be very happy campers. In our case we use it as the basis of our "poor mans" hybrid electric propulsion system on our CAL 34 and it has worked really well in this regard.Throw in the...

Re: Dodger

I'm just finishing up a hard dodger for So It Goes and been doing sporadic updates on the progress on the blog (http://boatbits.blogspot.com/2009/07/hard-dodger-progress.html). Hard dodgers make a lot of sense and as far as bang for the buck is concerned my outlay for this one is coming in at less t...

I've used Ample power battery monitors ( which were great) in the past. The current boat had a Link 10 for the house bank and a Xantrex for the propulsion bank...Neither of which I was very happy with so I replaced them with a TriMetric by Bogart Engineering which is heads and shoulders above anythi...

I'll chime in on the Multi-Master bandwagon...I've had mine for six years and it gets constant use. AWESOME!

If all my tools worked half as well...

I happen to be the guy with the Boat Bits blog that Rachel linked to... By the way Rachel I took your advice and changed the background color... I've now had an Electric dive in my CAL 34 for quite a while and am still very happy with it. While not being for everybody if it works within your comprom...
