Yeah, my mast step is an epoxy saturated mahogony plywood contraption. I am expecting the paint to stick to it just as well as the rest of the deck. It is removable but I just can't see any reason to remove it. I probably should have just set it in a bed of epoxy and made it permanent. Then again.....

Yeah, I was there in August. You can see the same dorys behind the stancion in this picture: http://www.dasein668.com/art/sailing/2007/cruise/081107/08.jpg I nearly ran into all this netting at the head of the harbor. It was hard to see with the sun glaring off the water when I was arriving: http://...

Saturday: yard work, desperately needed. Sunday: Sail to Little Chebeague for lunch. Invited my parents. Had a nice light air beat in 5-7 knot southerly on the way out. Anchored in Chandler's cove and had a nice lunch, during which time the wind built. A. Lot. Had a screaming.. no, really... a-S C R...

Now, anyone have a 2.75 inch forstner drill bit they want to sell/loan? I need to make two shallow cuts for my new cockpit drains and I really don't want to buy a $30-40 drill bit that will cut maybe 0.5 inches of material in my current lifetime. The forstner bit that I bought for that purpose was ...

Use your imagination: Mixed up lots of epoxy with 407 filler to a fairly thin consistency. Then 'painted' every vertical surface on the boat (cabin and cockpit) leaving it all a smooth red color. Use your imagination: the boat in this photo is outdoors and has a light green hull.... http://www.dase...

Boston by sea
Well, I've hardly even gotten back home and already, somehow, Heather and I are talking about next year... We've batted around a few ideas, and one that she is interested in is a cruise "way down south" to Boston, and perhaps the Cape. Has anyone here visited Boston in a small boat? Is it ...

I aim to please. Unfortunately, he had to pause to adjust something right when I started filming this little clip, but you get the idea, at least.Rachel wrote:I would love to have heard those bagpipes in the fog.

Stuck in Islesford...
Well, it's foggy, and thundery, and rainy, and windy, and just plain nasty here at Islesford on Little Cranberry Island... Which means y'all get a few preview pics from the cruise so far. Just because I'm bored and have internet access from the boat today. Without further ado: Clearing Fog, Harmon H...

The Triton has a huge mainsail area. Reefing at 20 knots is not only helpful with the helm it's just plain prudent. You won't go any faster with a full main in 20 knots than you will with a reef. In fact you'll probably be slower, or at least be making a ton more leeway. The fact is, these boats wit...

I'm leaving tomorrow (Monday 7/23) for my cruise. Penobscot, Jericho, and Frenchman Bays, primarily. I'll "see" you all when I get back, around August 17.
