thanks

Hey, thanks guys. I think I kinda knew that but sometimes I need a sounding board, maybe it's old age creeping up. I have done some bottom cleaning around here for $ so maybe stick to that and like you say some small jobs. I've often wondered about an Internet business like E-bay lounge but that may ...

making some money

Hey, anybody out there had any experience with stick welding ? I'm wondering about those inexpensive stick welders at Wal-mart for $80.00 or so. I don't need to make much money while cruising just wondering if this would be a viable service. I also do a fair amt. of wood carving (relief). I have cut...

thanks

Dennis, Thanks for the info. We never had these concerns in Michigan. Of course sailing in January posed a problem that I don't have down here too.
I don't think Fay is going to cause us much of a problem here but ya never know. Better to be prepared I say.

Jerry

anchoring in Hurricane force winds

We in Florida may have to deal with Fay in a day or two. How should I anchor my boat in the bay. I am in about 6-8 ft. of water with a sandy/weedy bottom. The danforth type off the bow has held well there for the summer. Do I want to run my 17lb. Fortress off the bow as well? other than close up any...

Thank You

Charlie, Thank you for the info. I'm not quite ready to do the work yet as there are numerous jobs scheduled for Voyager first. When I get to that job I will surely go with an in-hull transducer.

in-hull transducer ?

I guess I don't understand this term " in-hull " transducer. Can anyone un-confuse me ? It's so much easier to be stupid on a forum than in person. Is there a way to have a transducer work without drilling a hole in my boat ? If so why do it any other way ?

Confused,Jerry

illegal to clean in the water?

I'm rather sure I know why the "clean water folks" don't want us to clean our hulls while in the water$$$$$$$$$$. They don't make any money if you don't have them haul you out. Did not the stuff you are cleaning off the hull come from the very water you are returning it to ? It seems a bit...

Ryobi 18v

I too like the Ryobi 18v. I've had mine about 4-5 years and have just noticed my batteries are dying one after the other. At first I thought it was due to the very warm weather here in Florida during the summer. I moved here from Michigan almost 2 yrs. ago . I suppose that I should be thankful the b...

Bottom cleaning whilst in the water -

I am a certified scuba diver . I would like any ideas on how to clean the bottom of my boat. What do you use to keep yourself close to the hull ? Would some kind of line tied from toerail to toerail be the ticket ? What should I use on fiberglass ? A scraper or just a stiff brush? I guess it is obvi...

Hey, I wondered if anyone out there has run across Ken Neumeyer the Author/sailor who wrote a fun book years ago called " sailing the farm " ?

I met him once years ago and bought his book which I enjoy very much.

Larry, Good to hear from you. My boats brass plate says sailstar and the registration says 1968. I understand this was an early Bristol but is mine an Alberg design or a "Coble " . I have never heard the name Coble mentioned before. I can't seem to find out much about this little boat othe...

Larry, I have been away from sailing for several years. Actually I am more of an armchair sailor I suppose. I recently was given a Bristol 24 standard. Mine was a mess too. I didn't have quite as much water inside as you did but yucko ! I found nearly enough garbage in the cabin to nearly fill a 4 y...

circumnavigation

Let me re-phrase that last posting. I recently saw on the news that a young boy [ zak Sunderland ] had just left Marina Del Ray to start his trip around the world. I wondered if anyone knew if He was going to maintain a web site or what ? I think it would be nice to keep up with his progress and sup...
