Main Sail's butyl tape

I bought some a few years ago, still have one roll. Does anyone know if there is a shelf life for this stuff? Are there temperature restrictions when using? And finally, when using, to you take, say, a 2" piece and stretch it as demonstrated in the pictures he put up? I must confess, I will not...

Solution Found!

I apologize for not coming back sooner to share this but I found the solution shortly after my last post. I found it in some random forum - I doubt I could find it again. Re finishing the tiller

When I got my boat, the tiller was delamintating. I brought it down to bare wood, did some filling with resin and some filler and then varnished it. I always intended to make a sleeve for it but I never did. Now I have to do it again. I've often heard and read about how some people in this scenario ...

Update: Not much to say. One barrier coat after another. A gallon takes care of the bottom, just barely. They calculate for a 32'er 1.25. This is correct if you want to include the rudder :). I've discovered I am lousy at creating just 1/4 gallon so the rudder has a few less coats than the bottom. W...

Or perhaps there is a way to revive ole faithful. It's a Dewalt orbital. When I turned it on today it started to whine (can't really blame it) and then it would just stop. Turn if off, turn it back on...same thing. I tried tightening all screws. No change. Any thoughts?

I divided my anchor locker in half because my chain was getting stuck when deploying the anchor. I actually had too much room for the chain to drop into and it was falling over on itself. Dividing it in half took care of that. Now, the other side could be used for anything. In my case it's an all ro...

jhenson, my heart goes out to you. I did this job 5 years ago or so. The key then was thin, thin, thin the paint. Indirect sun was also a plus (but hard to arrange, I know). Paulus, how much time did you have between finishing last coat of Interprotect and starting 1st coat of bottom paint? Yes Paulus, they use the term 'thumb tacky' or something like that. Funny thing is, by the time the Interprotect is just right and the time you're done putting on that crucial first coat, the Interprotect is "too dry" as you are finishing up with the bottom paint. How much time between the...

Just a thought, if your bulwarks are high, stanchions attached to bulwarks are less intrusive to the toes, eliminate potential leaks to the core- and - for you - get the whole set up a little higher (above your knee). I know of a source for such stanchions if interested.
