hatch styles
I'm looking at replacing the forward hatch on my Ariel. I was wondering (WRT Lewmar ocean series hatches) whether one should purchase the flat style vs one with a flange. I understand the physical difference based on the drawings on the website but wonder what would work best on a small coastal crui...

I need to get to the bottom of this. The stuff I orderd showed up last night. The balsa did in fact come neatly rolled up in the same box as the biax. It would have also fit into the box that held the epoxy and paint. So I really have to wonder why I paid all that shipping? Is there a way to tell if...

We will not be serving rolls today!
I called JD this AM. They said that the reason for he $67 charge was because the package was over sized. While I understand that UPS needs to charge more for over sized packages I don't understand why the package was over sized in the first place. I figured the balsa would come in those rolled up pa...

Diving In:
I live in Wilmington too. I am restoring an Ariel out by Sneeds Ferry. Where do you keep your boat?
Nice shed...I'm jealous!

I just had an interesting experience with JD this week. I placed a large order that consisted of all the parts and goodies I would need to start the deck recore on my Ariel. As I was finalizing the order I noticed that shipping was free. I was very happy! Before finishing up however I realized that ...

7335
Perhaps a bit redundant but I think it is always nice to share good experiences.... So I finally broke down and bought a PC 7335. I purchased it from Tools for Less. Was $129 but with free ground shipping. Arrived in about 5 days (to NC) but it was over the MLK holiday so I actually expected a longe...

We insured our boat using Progressive. We couldn't haul it out at the time we bought it so a survey was a non-starter. Progressive was the only company we found that didnt require one. Anyway we got hit by lightening last summer in the marina. Pretty much blew out every light on the boat, melted all...

naked bottom
Hi! I have just finished stripping the bottom of my Ariel (A387 -Arthur). Man what a job!!!!!! Had at least 10+ layers of paint. After/during stripping I noticed many areas where the gel coat was pitted and cracked. Figured I'd barrier coat but having read the wisdom here about barrier coat was wond...
