Remote Oil Filter?
Has anyone moved an oil filter? Mine is rather a pain to get it on and off and I was wondering what the down side was to mounting it "off the engine", if there is any.

I third the Hayn Hi-Mod
On the fittings, the threads need to be lubricated or they'll gall. Don't believe that is in any of the literature. The rigging only poeple and Hayn have been excellent to deal with.

What I did was to
Cut out 3/4" wood small pyramide shapes with the top lopped off. Then I attached a wire saddle to the piece. I 5200 the piece to the hull. I could always chisel it off if need be. After it kicked I then put a wire tie through the saddle and viola, finished.

Wouldn't use Sunbrealla
Try Stamoid; it has a vynyl coating on both sides. Keeps out 100% of water and sunlight. Comes w/ a light light beige offwite on the outside and then a light brown or light blue on the inside. You can get some of the parts from the Volvo auto dealer at much less. Not diesel specific gaskets most likely but maybe the thermostat and some other stuff.
When we had a volvo md11c I took the part into the Volvo shop and we found a match. Was about 1/4 the price of the marine part.

Vacuum bagging the laminate will result in a tighter higher quality radius. Depend on how much you have to do and where it is at.

Epoxy Strength - Questionable
Just make sure you coat and seal the entire underside with epoxy before you put it down. Then any areas you miss with paint will still be sealed.

When I was looking at this product; memory seves me correct it is UV stabalized; however, it can't be used to sustain weight in any suported application. I spoke to the Starboard people and they said it can be used as backing plates or as windlass supports as it is hard and not really compressable.

Funny that the material they used on Spaceship One (or whatever it's called) as reported by 60 minutes awhile ago is put together with epoxy. I don't know the details. Just remember that as I was listening to the show they mentioned how they bonded all the panels together.

Where does salvage law fit in to all this.
That's not to say you're interested in keeping the boat. Just that it give you an easy tool to give the boat back and a way to protect yourself incase they say you "did something" to my boat.

In addition; I remember; although my brain is begining to fog sometimes; that you there is a silicone removal product and there is a product you can put into paints like awlgrip that will help keep any orangepeeling from silicone. It isn't the best solution but it may help.
