Alberg 30 #439 lives again!

After 12 years on the hard, and 2 year and 4 months after I purchased it, Alberg 30 #439 has re-entered the waters of the Chesapeake. Due to some problems with a forestay, I was unable to get the boom on or finish the running rigging, but we went motoring anyway. Here are pics of our journey. Thanks...

i have an alberg 30 that i am attempting to bring back to life.

i can hang in the $300 range. i was just hoping it wouldn't be $1000+, which would have surpassed my meager budget.

New forestay

I visited the boat this last weekend and, despite almost freezing to death in sub-freezing temperatures, was able to accomplish most everything I set out to do. I learned my forestay will have to be replaced. It has come untwisted at the base, it appears the auto-furler got jammed and the previous o...

I should put sealant down under the toe rail? I was unaware of this, i just laid the bare wood on the glassed over hull-deck joint and put the screws back in to the original holes. Epoxy gum?

Is there any sort of product that, like chewing gum, you could mold into screw holes to prevent water intrusion? I reglassed my hull deck joint, no problem there. I put my wood toe rail back on, which was a major pain. Sadly, under the toe rail there were several screw holes drilled by the previous ...

depth sounder advice

I need a depth sounder. Some book I read said it was the most important bit of electronics on a boat so I figured I would get one of these next. I already have a handheld VHF, and have wired my mast for a mounted one. I have a handheld GPS (garmin legend). What would you use for a simple depth sound...

I have no idea about the Woolsey question, but can tell you one gallon of Bottomkote ACT (an ablative paint) covers an Alberg 30 bottom exactly. So, you will not need 2 whole gallons, probably 3 gallons would do the boat twice. I gave my boat 2 coats and a third coat on the "high friction"...

Two questions before Phase 2 begins. #1) I asked the Alberg 30 folks about making spreaders and they said to use either aircraft spruce or white oak, cap with aluminum and epoxy, etc. But no one provided the proper dimensions. I used thickened epoxy, so I hope that is the right answer.

My only concern is that it would be more brittle under micro-flexing and perhaps crack and pop out, but only time will tell.

I have yet to get her in the water, but it survived the water hose test.
