Re: Wood species for anchor platform

That anchor platform broke in a storm. There were large wakes and Glissando got her pennant over the anchor roller (or the anchor snagged) and it broke. The anchor was on the roller and it bounced off the bow, making a "smile" scar... Its all there in the Glissando website. Tim Lackey ende...

That is interesting about Loos getting out of the marine wire business. I just looked at their website and they still offer marine wire for now. That is a GOOD use of a crap boat. After all, a boat keeps the water out or it sinks. So it'll work for use as an underground cellar.

You're able to find 302/304? Interesting. I couldn't locally. But in conversations with Rigging Only (where I bought my standing rigging), there are some loss in strength with 316 but not that material overall. Rigging Only only does 316, they won't touch 302/304 these days. You can use 302/304 if y...

On my Sea Sprite 23, I have huge wood screws going into the handrails from underneath. The screw heads are visible inside the boat. They look nice because finish washers were used. Generally speaking, most chains can handle a shackle one size larger. For example, if the chains are 5/16", it will take a 3/8" shackle. 3/8" shackle usually takes a 7/16" shackle and so on. I'm sure there are some odd sized chains out there but accepting a shackle one size large...
