Re: Stainless hardware on aluminum spars: nylon washers?
Thanks, Rachel. I liked the tip on using plastic milk cartons. Will definitely consider that. If one can not "reduce", then at least better to "reuse" before "recycling"!

Stainless hardware on aluminum spars: nylon washers?
I'm doing a minor rig maintenance project which includes replacing masthead bolts that keep tangs & related fittings attached to the mast. There is some clear, albeit minor, corrosion where stainless washers, nuts, and bolt heads meet the aluminum mast. I'm thinking about putting nylon washers u...

Meaning of "doghouse"
I always thought the doghouse referred to the aft portion of a stepped coachroof, which would be over the main cabin on a Triton, Tartan 27, A30, etc. A fellow on the T27 yahoo group has suggested that calling the forward part of the coachroof the "doghouse" makes more sense per the explan...

I can attest that Oakland and Bay area on a whole is one of the least expensive places to be a boat owner Jollyboat, would you mind elaborating on this a little? Pretty but useless
I'll second Rachel's Weems & Plath comment. The Yacht Lamp sure looks neat, but it's worthless as a light source. Good enough for faint romantic lighting, but that's about it. You'll go blind if you use it for reading. If you do get one, be sure to keep up on polishing it. Mine started to tarnis...

Maine Fog season?
Yeah, I could probably google for this info anywhere, but I thought I'd query some genuine Maine sailors for the best time to do a one week cruise in mid-coast Maine, weather-wise. Nothing beats cruising on one's own vessel, but I have a feeling I may be slightly longer on cash than time during the ...

Nothing to add, but have Tim or any other Ensign fans here read The Ensign Story, by Lionel Taylor? I just ordered it as a Father's Day gift (he raced them back in the 60's) and wonder if it's a good read.

Worked brilliant...

My boat was dry-docked next to a Laguna 26 several years ago. Don't know anything about its sailing or construction qualities, but it was a LOT of 26 foot boat. Headstay tension---just how tight should it be? When I grab my furled-up sail and give it a shake, it wiggles a little more than my gut would like. Just another confirmation that a little gas goes a long way towards stinking up the boat. When I have this situation on my boat, I can usually cure it by opening all the hatches and running the blower for 20 minutes. With a good breeze blowing through the cabin, the smell dissipates pretty quickly. ...

I paid $1800 to have my T27 hauled from NJ (Raritan Bay) to Jacksonville, FL. The trucker basically let me set up the stands to my liking...

I also usually see it done w/o the lines Figment is referring to, although most of the better places will at least put some kind of padding where the sling rubs the topsides. Probably not a concern w/ 218. If the aft sling were under the keel, I probably wouldn't have taken a 2nd look. But, I too ga...

How to repair wooden "rubrail" damage
So I--er, the captain--was motoring through a very circuitous channel in an unexpectedly swift current when a green can had the nerve to jump out of the water and whack my boat while I--er, the captain--was busy tidying some lines. Fortunately the topsides were left untouched (only to be scratched u...

I don't know for certain if a priming bulb is a USCG no-no, but I doubt it. I ran my A4 for part of a season using the bulb to cope with intermittent shutdowns (jumping down below to squeeze some fuel into the carb every 5 minutes--fun) and it's been an invaluable diagnostic tool. If that ain't enou...
