Thanks, Rachel. I liked the tip on using plastic milk cartons. Will definitely consider that. If one can not "reduce", then at least better to "reuse" before "recycling"!

Stainless hardware on aluminum spars: nylon washers?

I'm doing a minor rig maintenance project which includes replacing masthead bolts that keep tangs & related fittings attached to the mast. There is some clear, albeit minor, corrosion where stainless washers, nuts, and bolt heads meet the aluminum mast. I'm thinking about putting nylon washers u...

Tell ya what, call me a snob, but putting a monstrous dodger on a pretty catboat is a little more than halfway to Bad-motorsailer-conversion-ville anyway.
Then again, a splinter snob would probably say the same thing about a plastic catboat. To each his own, I guess.

I always thought the doghouse referred to the aft portion of a stepped coachroof, which would be over the main cabin on a Triton, Tartan 27, A30, etc. A fellow on the T27 yahoo group has suggested that calling the forward part of the coachroof the "doghouse" makes more sense per the explan...

What do you do for the antenna on a boat? Wire it to a chainplate? If you have a typical masthead VHF and RG8x coax going to your VHF, you can put a FM/AM/VHF coax signal divider just before the VHF. The Shakespeare version isn't cheap, but you might find a "non-marinized" one via Radio S...

Personally, I'd just leave as is and varnish. It only adds character.

I'm hypothesizing that this is a seat hatch/lazarette, and the darker part was hidden inside a gutter while the hatch was closed (=99% of the time). Hence the rest of the hatch was sun-bleached at a greater pace.
