Re: Sailing and skiing
One of the greatest things about Seattle is I have done both sailing and skiing in the same weekend. First sail of the year was last Sunday, ~12kts of wind and in the 50s! (last year we sailed in January too, but it was just under 40 degrees) We did go hiking instead of skiing because it's so warm h...

Boat chshions cost WHAT ?!?
After much procrastination, I finally just did it. The old cushions were, well, original. Two years ago I received a quote from some old ladies making 'Boat Cushions' for let's say WAY too much. I quickly decided that sewing pillows with my Grandma, when I was 8, was a reasonable foundation for upho...

Ahhh great minds... I'll report in the new tiller once received. It was the second day of my first racing experience, My normal sailing partner (wife) was running a half marathon with her friends, so I enlisted a crew of 1 experienced friend (Jim) and another not so experienced (Mike). 15 knot wind ...

I'm finally getting around to posting these… We bought float plane flight tickets at a charity auction and I caught some interesting pics on the way up to San Juan Island and then home again.. Seeing the Orcas: As we rounded the west side of San Juan Island outside False Bay we saw Orcas. We dropped sails a few hundred yards away and about a quarter mile off the shoreline. The battle ram, I mean bow roller is installed. I too agree that it is a bit ugly, but I'm really looking forward to sleeping better when on the hook for a night. One of the reasons I like vacations in Hawaii, is that every beach is public, you can sit on any beach, at any time no matter who bought the house behind you. It sounds like the State of Florida laid the groundwork for a similar ideal, where all shoreline is public, but not the beach. I'd guess that...

Dead Makita, thoughts on the Fein cordless drill / screwdriv
My Makita 12.2V died, 2 years old. It still turns, but sounds like there is a small woodland creature caught inside.
I am inclined to follow the recommendation here and get a DeWalt drill/driver, but this caught my eye... thoughts?
